I met up with Savannah not too long ago at Bisset Park in Radford, Virginia, and it was a beautiful day for photos!
Savannah will be graduating from high school this year, and will be heading off to school in the future. She has such a great personality and tons of energy, so I’m sure she’ll do great things!
I must be lucky because all the seniors I photograph are gorgeous. Savannah was no exception–I think we got some lovely pictures! I especially love the series with the gloves. Fierce!
And thanks for looking everyone!
Spring is here! Flowers are blooming and trees are blossoming! It’s pretty much the perfect time for a portrait session– and Jill was a great model! We met up at the Duckpond on campus, and the scenery was beautiful.
Rain, rain, go away! I met up with Tiffany and Scott on their beautiful land not too long ago. We only had like 15 minutes of shooting time though because a storm was due to hit at any minute!
It was a fast session, without a doubt, but I think we got some good shots. I’m pretty sure that is the fastest I’ve ever clicked my camera. If you look closely in the last couple of ones, you can even see the rain drops falling. A little extra touch, I guess! Haha!
Nicolette’s senior session was so much fun to shoot! The lighting was gorgeous and she brought tons of cute outfits and great props! Plus, I’m pretty sure Nicolette could model in her spare time. Not kidding!
Nicolette, her mom, and I met up in Radford, and we couldn’t have picked a better day. There wasn’t a cloud in the sky and it was the perfect temperature out. I had a real hard time narrowing down pictures to showcase on the blog today. There were plenty of great shots, so I tried to narrow them down to my favorites. Enjoy!

I had a great time taking your pictures, Nicolette! Best of luck in the future–I hope to read one of your books one day!
Thanks for looking!
I have a soft spot for animals. Their eyes can just be so expressive!
A week or so ago, I went all around Blacksburg and just took animal inspired photos. The light was so lovely! I really love shooting at that time of day. Of all the animals I stumbled across, the cows and horses were the most interactive, walking up to me and reaching out to be touched. I wish I had packed a carrot or two!
I have a little thing for graffiti. Not the cuss-word packed or the obscene, but the colorful kind. I love street art (if you check out some photos I did in Roanoke, I have some graffiti pics in there!). Recently, I traveled up to Northern Virginia and came across some graffiti under the railroad tracks. Although it was more of the scribbly-kind, I loved the color. So I grabbed my GORGEOUS sister and had a fun shoot!
I looooove snow! True story.
Earlier this week, Blacksburg finally got a healthy dose. I really wanted to do some portraits, but since we got over six inches, I wasn’t going anywhere. Regardless, I grabbed my camera and took some photos around the house and through the windows. I’m hoping to get at least one more snow fall before spring shows up!

A little green refused to be covered!

Ahhh! This post is long, long overdue. Bad, bad Katie!
Holly and I met with Emily and Brett to discuss wedding photography back in January; and right after we chatted, we took some quick (like 15 minutes tops!) engagement photos. Although the location wasn’t the most idyllic, Emily and Brett’s easy-going vibe more than made up for it.
It was a short, but sweet session. You gotta love a couple that’s not afraid of a jumping picture!
Thanks for looking!
It’s been one of those weeks. I’ve been sick, missed work, and worst of all…lost my grandmother to breast cancer. It’s been rough, but I know, things will always get better. I guess that’s the optimist in me.
Anyway, I needed to separate from everything around me for a little bit. I took my camera and took a walk, ran some errands, and just took a second look at things I wouldn’t have spared a second glance before. There is a lot of beauty out there, even in the simplest of things.
Here are some of my favorite pictures:

Happy Friday everyone…and thanks for looking!

Gwen was the winner of my senior portrait giveaway! We met up at the Duckpond and got right to taking photos. As some of you may know, my husband spent four years with the Marine Corps, so it was great to hear that Gwen is contemplating a career in the Corps as well! What a small world. I love the military life, even with it’s ups and downs, and I think Gwen would adapt quickly to it. It will try you, but it’s normally always worth it in the end.
I think we got some great shots at our session. One of my favorites is Gwen surrounded by branches looking up. Gooooorgeous!
I love doing engagement/couple pictures! I love capturing expressions and those quick little smiles and glances. So it almost goes without saying that I looooved doing Margarita and David’s pictures. They were so relaxed with each other and open to all sorts of crazy photo ideas that Holly and I threw at them!
Holly and I met up with Margarita and David at Panera and chatted for a bit, and then went to The Oaks Victorian Inn Bed and Breakfast to take pictures. I hadn’t heard of The Oaks Victorian Inn Bed and Breakfast before, but let me tell you, it is gorgeous! Antique wallpaper, big comfy beds, and rich wooden furniture were at every turn. If you’re in the Christiansburg area, you should definitely check it out. We wandered all through the Inn, going in all the beautiful rooms, and around the grounds. It was a perfect location for a rainy day and I think we got some great pictures!
I can’t wait to photograph your wedding, Margarita and David!

Thanks for looking!
Note: Holly and I will be doing joint photo sessions with wedding and engagement photography in 2012. We’ve created a new page H +K Photography, so come check us out! Since we are slowly merging, bear with us as we grow!
Recently I went to Roanoke with my fellow photographer, Holly of Holly Cromer Photography, for a photo adventure! We were lucky enough to have model Stephanie come along and pose for us all over downtown Roanoke. Talk about a good sport! Stephanie had two photographers clicking, clicking, clicking their cameras at every motion she made!
I had a lot of fun mixing portraiture with landscape/urban photography. It was a nice to mix up my photography routine! This trip really reinforced how much I enjoy portraiture though. As much as I photographed architecture and little odds and ends that interested me, I always came back portraiture and the human figure. Overall, it was a great trip and I can’t wait till the next one. I’d love to do some senior portraits out there (Hint, hint: all you high school seniors out there!)
